Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, a premier institution under the Indian Space Research
Organization (ISRO), is proud to present its annual technology and astronomy festival, Conscientia
2011. This festival is the only fest in the country with an entire section devoted to astronomy and space
sciences. It is being held from 3rd to 6th March 2011 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Events
From RC planes to robo-wars, from hacking to cracking, from mechanisms to electric circuits,
Conscientia’s events are sure to enthrall any genre of students. Add to this, a total prize money of worth
Rs. 3,00,000 and you have one of the largest technical festivals in the country.
Workshops
As the name suggests, Conscientia is all about sharing ‘knowledge’ and what better way than a hands-
on workshop. Telescope-making, robotics, digital image processing, RC plane are a few of the workshops
that will take place under Conscientia.
Lectures
Lectures and Video Conferences from well-known personalities like Prof. Sunil Mukhi, a renowned string
theorist and Prof. Mario Livio, author and scientist.

വരിയിലെ ഒരാള് ..

പിറകില് നിന്നുള്ള ഇടി സഹിക്കാന് വയ്യാതെ വന്നപ്പോള് ഞാന് കുറച്ചു കൂടി നീങ്ങി നിന്നു.. എന്റെ മുന്നില് ഉള്ളയാള് തിരിഞ്ഞു രൂക്ഷമായി ഒന്നു നോക്കി.. എങ്കിലും ഒന്നും പറയാഞ്ഞതില് ഞാന് നന്ദിയോടെ ഒരു വളിച്ച ചിരി പാസാക്കി.. അതയാള് കണ്ടില്ല എന്നു നടിച്ചു തിരിഞ്ഞു നിന്നു.. ഞാന് ചിന്തയില് മുഴുകി.. റോഡിലൊക്കെ തിരക്കായി വേരുന്നത്തെ ഉള്ളു.. പോരാത്തതിനു ഇന്ന് ചന്ത കൂടിയാണ്.. കോട്ടയും വട്ടിയുമായി നടന്നു നീങ്ങുന്ന സ്ത്രീകള് .. ചന്ത ദിവസങ്ങളില് റോഡ് ബ്ലോച്കവുന്നത് പതിവ് സംഭവം ആണ്.. കാള ചന്തയിലേക്ക് കന്നുകാലികളെ നടത്തി കൊണ്ടു പോകുന്നത് തന്നെ കാരണം.. ഇതു പണ്ട് മുതല്ക്കേ ഉള്ള കാഴ്ചയാണ്.. റോഡ് നിറഞ്ഞു കന്നുകാലികള്, അവയ്ക്കു ട്രാഫിക് നിയമങ്ങള് ഇല്ല.. സിഗ്നലുകള് നോക്കണ്ടാ.. എല്ലാ നിയന്ത്രണവും അവനോളം പോന്ന വടിയുമായി പിന്നില് നടക്കുന്ന നിക്കറിട്ട തമിഴന് ചെറുക്കെന്റെ കയ്യില്.. ഞാന് കുറച്ചു കൂടി മുന്നിലേക്കായി.. സമയം പത്തു ആകുന്നത്തെ ഉള്ളു.. എങ്കിലും സുര്യന് ഉച്ചിയില് തീ കോരിയിടാന് തുടങ്ങി.. പകല് മുഴുവന് ഭയങ്കരമായ ചൂടും രാത്രി പെരുമഴയും.. അതാണ് ഇപ്പൊ കുറെ ദിവസങ്ങളായി നടക്കുന്നത്.. വീടിലെ കാര്യങ്ങള് കഷ്ടത്തിലാണ്! ഒരു മുറി മാത്രമേ ചോരാതെ ഉള്ളു .. അതില് അമ്മ..ഭാര്യ.. മൂന്നു കുട്ടികള്.. മഴ തോര്ന്നു നില്ക്കുന്ന സമയം നോക്കി ഓടിളക്കി ചോര്ച്ച മാറ്റി ഇടണം.. എന്തായാലും ചിലവാ .. എന്നെ കൊണ്ടു ഒറ്റെക്ക് പറ്റില്ല.ഒരാളെ കൂട്ടിനു വിളിക്കണം .. അവനു മുന്നൂറു രൂപാ എന്നികൊടുകേണ്ടി വെറും ! ഹാ ഒരു മുറി ചോരുന്നില്ലെല്ലോ തല്കാലം ഇങ്ങനെ പോകട്ടെ..
പിറകില് ആളുകളുടെ എണ്ണം കൂടി വരുന്നു.. ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്നാല് ഒക്കില്ല! .. വേഗം പണി സ്ഥലത്തു എത്തണം.. ഇല്ലെങ്കില് ഇന്നും പാതി കൂലിയെ കിട്ടു! അങ്ങനെ ആണെങ്കില് നാളെയും കുട്ടികളുടെ ഫീസ് കെട്ടാന് ഒക്കില്ല.. ആരി വാങ്ങലും നടക്കില്ല.. പിന്നെ ആകെ ഉള്ള സമാധാനം കൈയില് നയകാശ് ഇല്ലേലും ഭാര്യ എവിടെയെങ്കിലും പോയി പത്രം മെഴുക്കി കൊടുത്തു, ഒരു നേരത്തെ ആഹാരം കൊണ്ടു വരും. എങ്ങനെ ഒക്കെ ആണേലും ഞാന് ഇപ്പോഴും അവളെ വിഷമിപ്പിചിട്ടെ ഉള്ളു.. എന്നും എന്തെങ്കിലും പറഞ്ഞു വഴക്കിടും.. പിന്നെ അതു അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്.. കുടത്തിന്റെ തല തല്ലി പൊട്ടിച്ചും.. കസേരയുടെ കാലടിചോടിച്ചും ഒക്കെ ആവും.. പറ്റുമെങ്കില് അവള്ക്കിട്ടും രണ്ടെണ്ണം! ..പിന്നെ സമാധാനമായി ഉള്ള ഉറക്കം.. എന്നേക്കാള് ആ വീട് നോക്കാന് കഷ്ടപെടുന്നത് അവള് ആണ്.. എന്നിട്ടും അവളെ ഞാന് വിഷമിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.. ഞാന് അങ്ങനെ ഒരു വെല്ലുവിളിയാര്ന്ന തീരുമാനം എടുത്തു.. അവളെ ഇനി ഉപദ്രാവിക്കില്ല! പത്തിരുപതു കൊല്ലമായി അവളുടെ ഒപ്പം.. സ്ത്രീധനം കിട്ടിയതൊക്കെ പല വിധ കച്ചവടങ്ങള് നടത്തി പരാജയപെട്ടു.. അങ്ങനെയാണ് ഇപ്പൊ നില്ക്കുന്ന പാറമടയില് ജോലിക്ക് കയറിയത്.. കട്ടി പണിയാണ്.. അപകടം പിടിച്ചതും.. ഇന്നലെ തിരി കത്തിക്കാന് വടം കെട്ടിയിറങ്ങിയ വാസു..വടം പൊട്ടി താഴെ വീണു..അവന്റെ കാര്യം കഷ്ടമാണ്.. രക്ഷ പിടിക്കുന്ന കാര്യം പടാന്ന മുതലാളി പറഞ്ഞെ ..എല്ലാം കണ്ടു മനം മടുത്തു!
പിറകില് എന്തോ ബഹളം …! ഞാന് തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കി രണ്ടു കോളേജ് പയ്യെന്മാര് എവിടെയോ തിരുകി കയറാന് നോക്കിയതാണ്! എല്ലാരും കുടി പിടിച്ചു നിര്ത്തി ! ഇത്ര ധിറുതി പിടിച്ചു പോയാല് ബാക്കി നില്ക്കുന്നവരെല്ലാം മണ്ടന്മാര് ആണോ?? ക്ലാസ്സിലെങ്ങും കയറാതെ നടക്കുവ.. എന്റെ മൂത്ത മോനും ഇനി എങ്ങനെ ആണോ എന്തോ ..കോളേജ്ഇലെക്കെന്നും പറഞ്ഞു ഒരു ബുക്ക് എടുത്തു ഇറങ്ങാം.. ആ ഒരു ബുക്ക് ആണ് രണ്ടു വര്ഷമായി അവന് കൊണ്ടു പോകുന്നത്.. ഇത്രയും കുറച്ചേ ഉള്ളു പഠിക്കാനെങ്കിലും അവന് ഇതുവരെ ഒരന്നതിനും ജയിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.. പള്ളിക്കുടം കാണാത്ത എന്റെയല്ലേ മോന്.. അവന് അങ്ങനെ ആയില്ലെങ്കിലെ അതിശയം ഉള്ളു! അവനു താഴെ രണ്ടു പെന്ന്കുട്ടികള് .. ഒരാള് എട്ടിലും .. മറ്റേതു പത്തിലും ! മൂത്തതിനെ ഇപ്പൊ തന്നെ കെട്ടിച്ചു വിടാന് പ്രായമായി.. പത്തില് തന്നെ മൂനാം തവണയ.. ഇളയവള് പത്തു കഴിഞ്ഞാലും ഇവള് അവിടെ തന്നെ കിടക്കും.. എല്ലാം കൂടി ആലോചിച്ചിട്ട് .. ഹോ… പെട്ടന്നു പിറകില് നിന്നും ഒരു വിളി …”സാധനം വാങ്ങിച്ചിട്ട് മാറാടെ… ബാക്കി ഉള്ളവര് ഇവിടെ വെയിലും കൊണ്ടു കുറെ നേരമായി… ” ഹാ .. ഞാന് മുന്നിലെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു..!! പോകറ്റില് നിന്നും കാശ് എടുത്തു നീട്ടി ..”ഒരു quarter OCR ” .. അതും വാങ്ങി നടന്നപ്പോ വല്ലാത്തൊരു ആശ്വസം!.. പറമടയിലേക്ക് തിരിയുന്ന ആളൊഴിഞ്ഞ വഴിയില് നിന്നും പച്ച വെള്ളം തൊടാതെ അതു കുടിച്ചു തീര്ത്തു.. കാലിനൊക്കെ ഒരു ശക്തി വന്നപോലെ .. തിരിഞ്ഞു വേഗത്തില് നടന്നു…ഞാന് എന്തിനു ആ നശിച്ച പണിക്കു പോയി ജീവന് കളയണം..! വീടെതിയത് എന്നതെകാള് വേഗത്തില് ആയിരുന്നു.. അടുക്കളയിലേക്കു കയറി .” നായിന്റെ മോളെ..വയറു കത്തുന്നു വല്ലതും കഴിക്കാന് എടുക്കു.. ” അതിനുള്ള മറുപടിയും…അവള്ക്കിട്ടുള്ള തൊഴിയും ഒരുമിച്ചായിരുന്നു.. പതുങ്ങിയ ഒരു കരച്ചില്… അതവസാനിക്കും മുന്നേ..മയക്കത്തിന്റെ…ബോധാമില്ലയ്മയുടെ പാറക്കെട്ടുകളിലേക്ക് ഞാന് വടം കെട്ടി ഇറങ്ങിയിരുന്നു…
അസ്തമയമില്ലാത്ത മഹാസൂര്യന്

ആയിരത്താണ്ടുകളുടെ അടിമത്തം ഭാരതത്തിനും അവളുടെ പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും സമ്മാനിച്ച അലസതയും ആത്മവിശ്വാസമില്ലായ്മയും തട്ടി ദൂരെയെറിഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ആ കാഷായ വസ്ത്രധാരി ഗര്ജിച്ചു “ഉത്തിഷ്ട്ടത ജാഗ്രത പ്രാപ്യവരാന് നിബോധത ”
പൌരസ്ത്യമായതിനെ ഒക്കെയും നിന്നിക്കുകയും പാശ്ചാത്യമായതോക്കെയും അന്ധമായി അനുകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്ന ഇരുളടഞ്ഞ ആ ഭൂതകാലത്ത് ഉജ്വല പ്രഭാതൂകി ആ യുവ സന്യാസി സ്വാഭിമാനത്തിന്റെയും സഹവര്ത്തിത്വത്തിന്റെയും സന്ദേശം ഭാരതീയ യുവത്വത്തിനു നല്കി .
പാശ്ചാത്യ രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളില് ഭാരത സംസ്കാരത്തെ കുറിച്ച് അറിവും ആദരവും വളര്ത്തി ലോക മതങ്ങളുടെ മാതാവായ സനാതന ധര്മത്തിന്റെ മഹത്തായ സന്ദേശം സര്വ ദേശങ്ങളിലും മുഴക്കി , അന്ധ വിശ്വാസങ്ങളുടെയും അത്യാചാര – അനാചാരങ്ങളുടെ പടുകുഴിയില് നിന്നും ഹൈന്ദവ ജനതയെ ഉദ്ധരിച്ച് ഒരു പുതുവെളിച്ചം പരത്തിയ ആ കര്മ യോഗി യുടെ നാമം കേള്ക്കുന്ന മാത്രയില് തന്നെ ഭാരതത്തിലെ ഓരോ മണല്ത്തരിയും ആലസ്യം വെടിയുന്നു .
മഹാദേവ വരപ്രസാദം കൊണ്ട് വിശ്വനാഥ് ദത്തക്കും, ഭുവനേശ്വരി ദേവിയുടെയും പുത്രനായി 1863 ഒരു മകര സംക്രാന്തി ദിന ത്തിലെ തണുത്ത പ്രഭാതത്തില് ഉദിച്ചുയര്ന്ന ആ മഹാസൂര്യന് ഉറങ്ങിക്കിടന്ന ഭാരതീയരെ തട്ടിയുണര്ത്തി . യാതൊന്നിനെയും ഭയക്കാത്ത ,സത്യത്തിനുവേണ്ടി സര്വവും ത്യജിക്കുന്ന, ഗുരുഭകതിയുടെയും ത്യാഗത്തിന്റെയും, ഉത്തമവും അനുകരണീയവുമായ ഉദാത്ത മാതൃകയായിരുന്നു സ്വാമി വിവേകാനന്ദന് ,
അലസതയല്ല കര്മകുശലതയാണ് ആധ്യാത്മികതയെന്നു ലോകത്തിനു തന്റെ പ്രവത്തനങ്ങളിലൂടെ ആണ് നിമിഷം തെളിയിച്ചു കൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു .
യുവത്വം എങ്ങിനെ വിനിയോഗിക്കണം എന്നും യുവാക്കള് എങ്ങിനെ ആയിരിക്കണം എന്നും സ്വാമികള്ക്ക് വ്യക്തമായ കാഴ്ച്ചപ്പാടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു
വിശക്കുന്നവന്റെ വിശപ്പകറ്റാന് കഴിയുന്നതിലും വലിയ ഈശ്വരാരാധന ഇല്ലെന്നു പറഞ്ഞ സ്വാമികള് “മാനവ സേവ മാധവ സേവ ” എന്ന് ഉത്ബോധിപ്പിച്ച്ചു .
ഇന്നും അവിടുത്തെ വാക്കുകള്ക്കു അനുനിമിഷം പ്രസക്തി വര്ത്ധിച്ച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു ,ഇന്നിതാ വീണും ഒരു വിവേകാനന്ദ ജയന്തി വന്നണഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു,
നമുക്ക്
സ്മരിക്കാം ആ മഹാത്ഭുതത്തെ
പകര്ത്താം സ്വജീവിതത്തിലാ വാക്കുകള്
മുറുകെ പിടിക്കാം ആ മൂല്യങ്ങളെ

Topic : “Laboratories Without Boundaries”
Abstract:
Scientists and engineers typically believe that laboratory experimentation is a critically important part of training in their fields. Due to logistical or resource constraints, however, students are often denied such laboratory experiences. MIT’s iLab Project addresses this by providing access to real laboratory experiments via the Internet. This allows educators to complement existing hands-on labs with remotely available iLabs or to provide online lab experiences for distance learners.
During over a decade of the project’s evolution, iLabs have allowed us to reexamine what the role of labs can and should be in education. While online labs can easily cater to bounded and passive learning experiences, we have found that they can also introduce students to the fundamental engineering cycle of requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing and evaluation. Finally, online labs offer unique opportunities for students to learn that modern science and engineering are inherently global and interdisciplinary fields.
All interested faculty, researchers and students can attend this session.

PYROS2k11 – Technical Fest at Mangalam College of engineering

“PYROS2k11” – A National Level Technical Extravagance is scheduled to take place on 10th & 11th of January 2011 at MANGALAM COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, Kottayam (Ettumanoor). The event is organized by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The public figure who will be the center of attraction is former chairman of ISRO Sri G MADHAVAN NAIR will be the guest of honor.
This technical festival is a forum for similar minds to interact, share and discuss the latest happenings in the field of Technology and help growth of Science & Technology in India. The fest will be a high profile event which would attract students from all over India to compete on a big scale and showcase their talents. Unlike other technical festivals PYROS2k11 is also extending its platform to school students in the form of a quiz competition named “ENCUESTA” for students from classes 9-12.
